Galley Kitchen & Great Room Remodel in Danville, CA
Challenge
These returning Danville clients were ready to refresh their home with a lighter, brighter galley kitchen and a moodier, more dramatic atmosphere in other areas. A large, central fireplace created both a visual and physical barrier between the kitchen and great room, leaving the space feeling dark and disconnected. Their vision was to open up the layout for better flow and natural light, while incorporating a custom built-in media wall in the great room. In the kitchen, they wanted a full remodel using a remove-and-replace approach—modernizing every element without altering the existing footprint.
Solution
To transform the space, we began by removing the large central fireplace, instantly improving natural light and creating better flow between the kitchen and great room. The galley kitchen was refreshed with low-maintenance materials, including porcelain slabs on the countertops, backsplash, and island. A warm, soft paint palette and rich oak flooring bring cohesion and elegance to the open layout.

We replaced the outdated circular island with a sleek, functional design that features seating for three, stylish pendant lighting, and open shelving for visual balance. Removing the kitchen soffit further unified the two rooms, enhanced by a thoughtfully designed lighting plan that brightens the entire space.
Smart storage solutions were also added, including under-counter placement for the microwave and custom appliance garage cabinets—keeping countertops clear and visual clutter to a minimum.
In the great room, we built a striking custom media wall with bold-colored cabinetry that adds personality, boosts storage, and ties the design together with a personalized, polished finish.
Result
The remodeled home now feels open, bright, and thoughtfully unified. By removing the central fireplace, the kitchen and great room flow seamlessly together—enhanced by rich oak flooring and a warm, light palette. The kitchen blends function and style with durable porcelain surfaces, a striking new island, and elegant cabinetry. The addition of custom built-ins in the great room provides both storage and personality, delivering a tailored, high-impact transformation that meets the clients’ vision for both lightness and mood.
