Spacious Transitional Primary Bathroom Remodel in Diablo, CA

The existing space, defined by its large footprint and high ceilings, required a thoughtful approach to avoid a layout that felt disconnected or overly sparse. The design needed to bring warmth and intention to every corner.

Inspired by a love of the coast, the homeowners envisioned a tranquil, beach-inspired environment. Their collection of seashells became a defining feature, integrated in a way that felt both personal and artful.

Vanity and Storage Zone
Custom cabinetry was designed to anchor the space and maximize functionality. A central linen and display cabinet creates a focal point along the primary vanity wall, while a dedicated makeup area with tall pier cabinets on the opposite wall adds balance and usability. Finished in a rich Cape May Cobblestone tone, and topped with a beautiful Sereno Blanco quartz countertop, the cabinetry introduces depth and warmth.

Tall beveled mirrors and integrated linear lighting extend across both walls, visually connecting the cabinetry and reinforcing a sense of symmetry and continuity throughout the space.

To further personalize the space, a custom corner shelf was crafted from the same Sereno Blanco quartz countertop, creating a seamless display area for the homeowners’ curated seashell collection.

Shower Zone
The oversized curbless shower, designed for aging in place, is anchored by a striking feature wall of Jeffrey Court 3×6 Reef Oceania matte glass tile, introducing color, texture, and a subtle coastal influence. Surrounding walls and flooring transition seamlessly with large-format porcelain tile in a soft greige tone, creating a calm, cohesive backdrop. Thoughtfully integrated grab bars provide added safety while maintaining the overall aesthetic.

A pebble stone shower floor adds natural texture underfoot, while brushed nickel fixtures complement the palette and enhance the spa-like feel.

Tub Retreat
A freestanding Neptune tub serves as a sculptural focal point, offering both comfort and visual elegance. Its soft, flowing lines are paired with a streamlined tub filler, creating a quiet moment of relaxation within the space.

Above, a woven rattan light fixture adds warmth and an organic element, reinforcing the connection to the coastal inspiration.

Overall Design Approach
An airy palette of blues, whites, and sandy neutrals was used throughout to evoke a serene, beach-like atmosphere. Layered materials, varied textures, and thoughtful lighting ensure the space feels inviting rather than stark, balancing openness with comfort.
